“Making our environment more livable is everybody’s responsibility. No amount of effort by the government or any organization will make this planet clutter-free if we do not work hand-in-hand”, says Ms. Vanessa Ebina, employee of PENRO Biliran.

This, she stressed after the office spearheaded a clean-up activity at the Grandstand in Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran.

Participated by the Bureau of Fire Protection, BLGU Larrazabal, and Kasambungan Youth Club, the volunteers collected around fifteen (15) bags of garbage consisting of plastics, bottles, paper boxes, and styrofoams from fastfood take-outs.

On behalf of PENRO Biliran, Ms. Ebina called on everyone to be responsible and be mindful of the environment while doing their activities. “My appeal goes out to the community especially to the users of the grandstand  – the athletes who are practicing their sports, those who are practicing their driving lessons, visitors, and bystanders, please stop littering this area and all our surroundings”, she said. “What is seen in your community, reflects the kind of citizen that you are”, she added.

Meanwhile, DENR Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian Jr., says “as stewards of our vast environment and natural resources, we should ensure that our garbage is disposed of properly. We cannot always depend upon the DENR or the volunteer groups and organization to clean up our mess. To achieve a sustainably healthy, safe, and sound environment, action should start from each and every individual”.
