The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in region 8 in partnership with people’s organizations and the local government units maintained 24,712 hectares of established National Greening Program (NGP) plantations in 2019. 

The figure represents 100 percent accomplishment on maintenance and protection of its targeted 13,392 hectares NGP plantation established in 2017 and the 11,320 hectares plantation established in 2018.

Report from DENR 8 states that in 2019 or in its 3rd year implementation of the Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP), activities were focused on the maintenance and protection of established NGP plantations. The goal of the activity is to enhance and enrich the survival rate of planted tree species under the government’s greening program.

Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr. assures the all-out effort of the Department and its partners to ensure sustainable maintenance and protection of established NGP plantations in the region since its implementation in 2011 which now covers an aggregate area of 145,804.3 hectares.

Executive Order No. 26 (National Greening Program), series of 2011 was issued to plant 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares of lands of the public domain for a period of six (6) years from CY 2011 to CY 2016.

Executive Order No. 193 (Enhanced National Greening Program) was signed on November 12, 2015 to rehabilitate all the remaining unproductive, denuded and degraded forestlands estimated at 7.1 million hectares from 2016 to 2028.

The Enhanced National Greening Program remains as one of the priority programs of the DENR under the leadership of Secretary Roy A. Cimatu.
