Surgical masks entangle mangrove roots in a mangrove plantation in St. Bernard
Plastic wastes including surgical masks were seen scattered in a mangrove area with some even entangled in mangrove roots. These were the observations noted by some staff from the Conservation and Development Division (CDD) who visited a mangrove site in Barangay San Isidro, St. Bernard, So. Leyte on February 2, 2021, World Wetland’s Day. The plantation which is being managed by the Panian, San Isidro, Himbangan Mangrove Planters Association (PASAHIMAPA) People’s Organization (PO) was recommended for a clean-up activity involving the local community.
