Photo Releases

In line with the celebration of the World Environment Day (WED) 2020 on June 5, the DENR R8 held an Online Photo Story Contest to encourage the public to share their time for nature during the quarantine period for COVID-19. The participants were asked to submit one photo along with a story that visually and creatively tell their environment-friendly activities during the quarantine period and in line with this year’s World Environment Day theme “It’s time for Nature”.

Of the 15 shortlisted entries, the top three entries chosen won cash prizes of P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. Entries were judged according to photo quality and visual impact (25%), story composition (25%), Facebook likes and shares (20%), and adherence to the theme (30%).


A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) found in Barangay 69 Anibong, by a local resident was turned over to the City Hall early morning of March 13, 2020. It was released back to the sea on the same day by DENR-08 personnel. Prior to its release, a metal tag was placed on its right flipper bearing serial number PH 1728 M. The turtle measured 41 centimeters in length and 37 centimeters in width.

Ms. Ingelina Lantajo, from the Conservation and Development Division talked about wildlife conservation and protection during her live interview at the Philippine Information Agency's radio program last March 3, 2020 as part of the activities of the DENR R8 in celebration of the World Wildlife Day 2020.
