Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian Jr. presides over the meeting of the Lake Danao Natural Park- Protected Area Management Board as its chairman. The meeting discussed results of the recently conducted monitoring of biodiversity within the area and other pressing concerns affecting the protected area.

At least 446 board feet of illegally cut forest products were seized by the Philippine National Police (PNP) - Biliran in a series of operations held during the first week of January 2020. The undocumented lumbers composed of toog, antipolo, acacia mangium and gmelina, with three units chainsaw were seized in Brgy. Busali, Brgy. Hugpa, and Brgy. Pinamongahan, all within the municipality of Biliran. Charges were filed against identified owners of the undocumented lumbers and equipments in violation of P.D. 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines. The seized lumbers and chainsaws were turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Biliran for custody and proper disposition.

Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr. says the DENR is closely coordinating with the operatives of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army for the conduct of joint operations against timber poaching.

“The series of operations with our law enforcers is just one way of showing perpetrators that the Department is serious in its aim to intensify forest protection and curb timber poaching activities in the region”, RED Parian says.

“In instances such as apprehensions of forest products, we cannot just leave the perpetrators free of the consequences. Sanctions will be imposed to violators of our forestry laws”, he adds.
