Provincial Releases

Sambayanihan: Serbisyong Sambayanan, an information drive on various environmental laws, was conducted in Barangay Caghalo, Carigara, Leyte by CENRO Palo. Around 100 participants from the People’s Organizations, Local Government Unit (LGU) and Police force were educated on the relevant provisions of RA 9175 or the Chainsaw Act of 2002 and PD 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines. Also included in the discussions were the role of the Philippine National Police (PNP) as deputized unit to enforce PD 705, Climate Change, Leadership Training and Team Building Workshop.

Around 16 sacks of assorted garbage were collected during a creek clean-up at Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran. Said activity was participated in by 4Ps beneficiaries and the Barangay Local Government unit of Brgy. Larrazabal together with PENRO Biliran personnel.  The clean-up is in line with the RIVERs (Recognizing Individuals and Institutions towards a Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers) for Life program of  the DENR.

A green sea turtle (Chelonia Mydas) in So. Butalid, Agpangi, Naval, Biliran is released back to the sea by personnel of PENRO Biliran. Prior to its release, a metal tag was placed on its right flipper bearing serial number PH 1083 K. The turtle measured 44 centimeters in length and 42 centimeters in width.

In celebration of WorldWetlandsDay2020, DENR Region 8 visited the Jiabong National High School in Jiabong, Samar. The students were given lecture-presentations on why wetlands matter in our environment and in our lives. The students also experienced bird-watching in a wetland in Jiabong which is host to migratory birds and which is rich in biodiversity. 

Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian Jr. presides over the meeting of the Lake Danao Natural Park- Protected Area Management Board as its chairman. The meeting discussed results of the recently conducted monitoring of biodiversity within the area and other pressing concerns affecting the protected area.
