On November 19, 2020, CENRO Palo personnel conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign, Tree Planting and Clean-up drive in Brgy. Salvacion, Palo, Leyte in observance of the Climate Change Consciousness Week which transpires on November 19-25 of every year pursuant to Proclamation No. 1667, series of 2008. Around 90 stakeholders from the 546th Engineering Batallion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, People’s Organizations (POs), Cogon Fisherfolks Association, Barangay Council and some constituents of Brgy. Salvacion participated in the activities. The celebration was anchored on this year’s theme “Adapting for a Sustainable Future.

For its IEC campaign, CENRO Palo personnel gave an orientation on Climate Change, its causes and possible solutions as well as lecture on Ecological Solid Waste Management and distributed IEC materials containing information on climate change to the participants. In the tree planting activity, 110 seedlings of Bitaog and Talisay species were planted by the participants at the coastal area of Brgy. Salvacion , while in the clean up drive, approximately 15 sacks of assorted wastes were generated around the coastal area on that day.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Dolores, Eastern Samar (CENRO Dolores) donated 1,108 board feet of confiscated lumber to the 52nd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

DENR CENRO Dolores disclosed that the donated lumbers are sourced from forest products confiscated by the office as a result of intensified law enforcement operations.

This donation is specifically intended for the construction and rehabilitation of 52nd IB’s administrative building and dilapidated quarters and mess hall within its camp located at Brgy. Dao, Oras, Eastern Samar.

The donated lumbers were gratefully received by the Commanding Officer of the 52nd IB, 8th ID, Lt. Col. Joven D. Bugarin during the ceremonial signing of Deed of Donation held at DENR CENRO Dolores. It was attended by the OIC, PENR Officer of PENRO Eastern Samar, Forester Delia Abobo-Benitez together with the OIC, CENR Officer of CENRO Dolores, Forester Flordeliza C. dela Cruz and PENRO Eastern Samar OIC-Chief, Technical Services Division, Forester Myron O. Garcia.

Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian Jr. said, “intensified enforcement operations which lead to the confiscation of illegally sourced lumber should serve as a warning to violators that the Department remains resolute in its forest protection efforts. The DENR will not waver in its fight against illegal logging. It will ensure continued protection of our forests”.

LGUs within the Biri-LaRoSa Protected Landscape and Seascape in Northern Samar receive their copy of “Protected Areas in Eastern Visayas: Biodiversity at its Best”, a coffee table book featuring the seven Protected Areas of Region 8 under the National Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act. Produced by the DENR in Eastern Visayas, the book hopes to inspire these LGUs to continue their commitment and support towards the sustainable management and use of resources within the protected areas. Mayors Edito B. Saludaga, Gerardo P. Miranda and Atty. Clarence A. Dato personally received their copies for LGUs Lavezares, Rosario and San Jose, respectively. For the municipality of Biri, a representative of Mayor Antonio B. Delos Reyes, Jr., received the book from DENR Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr and Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Elmer C. Bascos.

On April 20, CENRO Sta.Rita distributed relief packs to their 25 contractual employees.They also gave out 4 packs of relief goods to the quarantine frontline workers stationed at San Juanico bridge entrance and exit checkpoints.

Around 598.32 bd.ft. of undocumented forest product with an estimated market value of Php29,916 were apprehended in the vicinity of Brgy.P-Tingzon, San Jose Northern Samar at around 10 o’clock in the evening on June 9, 2020. Also apprehended were two (2) conveyances and the alleged persons responsible for the illegal acts identified as Felix M. Chua Jr. and Clien B. Brillante.

Apprehended items are temporarily deposited at the San Jose municipal police station for administrative adjudication proceedings by the DENR while a criminal case is being readied against the arrested suspects for violation of Section 77 of PD 705.

The anti-illegal logging operation was conducted by the DENR led by OIC PENR Officer Angelito Villanueva and OIC CENR Officer Paquito Dabuet in collaboration with the Provincial Director of Northern Samar Provincial Police Office, and elements of San Jose Municipal police station.
