Provincial Releases

Around 347 kilograms of assorted trash, mostly plastic bottles and wrappers, were collected from a clean-up activity conducted along Calbiga River in Samar.  This was done by the Calbiga River Maintenance and Monitoring Team, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) and Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) in coordination with Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Sta. Rita, Samar. The said activity aims to improve and protect the river and the water condition, including the safety of those situated along Calbiga River. This is part of the continuing activities in relation to the Search for Recognizing Individuals and Institutions Towards Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers (R.I.V.E.Rs) for Life Award wherein Calbiga River bagged the 2nd Place in the nationwide search in 2018.

Around 200 mangrove propagules were planted in Brgy. Busali, Biliran by the Philippine Coast Guard. Joining them were members of the barangay council and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Biliran. The participants were oriented on the proper way of planting the propagules to ensure their survival and the importance of mangroves particularly in reducing risks around coastal areas.

“Transforming Amidst these Challenging Times” underscores the importance of keeping the seas and the oceans clean and free from marine debris at all times.  With this theme, the Philippine Coast Guard cleaned the coastal area of Brgy. Busali in Biliran town. Joining them were community volunteers and officials of the barangay together with some personnel of PENRO Biliran. The coastal clean-up yielded seven (7) sacks of assorted trash.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Biliran conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign on forest protection to members of the Indigenous People’s group in So. Palayan, Brgy. Caucab, Almeria, Biliran.  The campaign highlighted the importance of the forests, the various benefits it provides and the consequences of continued illegal cutting of trees.  The participants were encouraged to be proactive in protecting the forests along the Tayo ang Kalikasan advocacy of the Department.

Dr. Eugenia N. Bautista, a Forester, is the new OIC-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of PENRO Biliran by virtue of DENR Regional Special Order No. 2021-07.  She was installed into office by Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr. on January 19, 2021. Witnessing the event was Assistant Regional Director Elmer C. Bascos, together with the rest of the personnel of PENRO Biliran Prior to her reassignment, she was the Chief of the Conservation and Development Division at the Regional Office.
