The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Maasin, Southern Leyte welcomes its new CENR Officer Forester Leonardo G. Germano.

CENRO Germano was designated as the new Chief of CENRO Maasin per Special Order No. 2021-303 issued by Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr. following the retirement from government service of former CENRO Maasin Edilberto R. Alcarde.

Prior to his designation, CENRO Germano was the Chief of the Conservation and Development Section of CENRO Ormoc.

Taking his post as CENRO Maasin, Forester Germano committed full dedication to the operations of the office especially as it tries to recover from the massive devastation left by Typhoon Odette.

The installation ceremony held on the first working day of the year was officiated by DENR VIII Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Arturo N. Salazar.

Mr. Juanito Pallones, 78-year old beneficiary from Brgy. Tinambacan, Calbayog City, shows his land title after the ceremonial awarding of land titles in Calbayog City.

A total of 250 land titles were awarded to qualified beneficiaries from the different barangays in Calbayog City, Samar during the annual Handog Titulo in September spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO)- Samar in partnership with the Registry of Deeds in Calbayog City and the City Government of Cabayog.

Volunteers collect around eleven (11) sacks of trash along the tide embankment area in Barangays Baras and Candahug, Palo, Leyte. Most of the trash collected were plastic items such as food wrappers, beverage bottles, cups, plates and straws.

“Having learned that plastics remain to be the main pollutants of our coastal and marine resources, let us continue with our advocacy against plastic pollution. “Reject the use of single-use plastics and continue with our proper disposal of solid wastes,” says Crisostomo Badeo, CENR Officer of Palo, Leyte.

The volunteers who joined the clean-up were barangay officials, ENR Ambassadors and CENRO Palo staff and personnel.

The activity was in line with the celebration of International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) day which is observed every third Saturday of September by virtue of Proclamation No.470, series of 2003.

Around 100 mangrove seedlings of Popotan species (Burgeria sexanguala) were planted in Brgy. San Juan, Sta. Rita, Samar in an activity spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Volunteers were from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Health (DOH), SIRAK Waraynon and EAGLE’s Club-Eastern Visayas. The activity was preceded by a marathon competition of delegates coming from Luzon and Visayas aimed at advocating environmental activities nationwide. This included tree-planting and coastal clean-up to help address pressing environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

A Brahminy Kite (Haliastur Indus) was recently released back to the forest in Almeria, Biliran by Provinical Environment and Natiral Resources Office (PENRO) Biliran personnel. A police leiutenant turned over the wildlife species to the PENRO when it was handed over to him by teenagers who caught it at the mountain in Brgy. Madao, Kawayan, Biliran. Before its release, the bird was fed and sheltered in the Wildlife Rescue Center of the PENRO.
