Delegates of the 7th National Wildlife Quiz visited Lake Danao Natural Park (LDNP) and Leyte Sab-a Basin Peatland in Eastern Visayas on November 28, 2023 as part of their Ecosystems Tour.

The tour aims to provide participants with thorough understanding and appreciation of the region’s rich biodiversity. It also hopes to emphasize the importance of collaborative conservation efforts between the DENR and its partners.

Protected Area Superintendent Loreta Baldonaza introduced LDNP to the participants, highlighting on its features and the flora and fauna found in the area. The orientation was followed by a tour around the park where participants identified local species.

The delegates also visited the Leyte Sab-a Basin Peatlands. An orientation about the Leyte Sab-a Basin and the importance of the peatland ecosystem was given by PENRO Leyte technical personnel and Dr. Jerome Montemayor, Executive Director of the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE).

The tour provided the wildlife quiz delegates insights into Eastern Visayas' biodiversity. It also reinforced the need for continued collaborative conservation work between the DENR and partner organizations across the region.
