NEWS CORNER
June 4-10 is Philippine Eagle Week. Observed annually by virtue of Proclamation No. 79 signed in 1999 by President Joseph E. Estrada, the celebration seeks to instill into the minds of the Filipinos the importance of Philippine Eagle as a biological indicator of the forest ecosystem and as a unique heritage.
This year's theme "Kapayapaan at Kalayaan: Ang Agila at Mamamayan, May Kaugnayan," reminds us of our responsibilities as caretakers of the land and the importance of the Philippine Eagle and other wildlife in sustaining life on earth.
JUNE IS PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT MONTH. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) joins the nation in celebrating Philippine Environment Month this June and the global observance of World Environment Day in June 5.
Anchored on this year's global theme 'Only One Earth,' the country shall observe the month-long event with a local theme 'Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo.' This highlights the call for collective action to celebrate, protect and restore the planet.

![]() The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 8 is highlighting the celebration of Earth Day on April 22 with a regionwide simultaneous 'Operation Baklas' or removal of campaign materials posted on trees.
"Celebrated with the theme 'Invest in our Planet,' the Earth Day is a timely reminder for the 2022 National and local election candidates and their supporters to practice an environment-friendly election campaign," DENR 8 Regional Executive Director Arturo E. Fadriquela said.
"The 'Operation Baklas' intends to once again remind the general public that adorning our trees with posters, especially when using nails, could compromise their health conditions," RED Fadrequela added.
He also warned that this violation is sanctioned by pertinent laws and policies.
Section 3 of Republic Act No. 3571 prohibits the cutting, destroying, or injuring of trees along public roads, in parks, schools, and other public areas.
A similar prohibition simulateous 'Operation Baklas' on April 22 will be spearheaded by the DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) in coordination with the COMELEC, DPWH, PNP, LGUs, and other concerned agencies.
RED Fadriquela calls on election candidates, their supporters, and the general public to put to heart this year's Earth Day theme "Invest in our Planet" by taking part in environmental activities and by voluntarily removing campaign materials that are nailed or posted trees.
