“Our celebration of the Philippine Environment Month comes at a time that we are inching closer to having ourselves protected against COVID-19 through vaccination. The same can be said of our effort to restore the environment and heal the Earth for we too have made our positive strides. This pandemic has made us realize better of the urgency to work together to conserve, protect and manage our fragile natural resources,” says Tirso P. Parian Jr., Regional Executive Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 8.
With this statement, RED Parian enjoins all stakeholders to celebrate June as Philippine Environment Month under the theme, “Sama-samang Pagkilos, Sama-samang Paghilom: Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan”.
“The challenge for this year’s theme is for everybody to be a team player in our continued effort to rehabilitate our denuded forests, restore our pristine waters, as well as clear skies, and breathable air. All of us can make our modest contribution if only we can truly learn to respect nature,” he adds.
The DENR in Region 8 has lined up a series of activities to highlight the celebration. This includes the 2nd Digital Poster Making Contest and the opening of an EcoPantry, among others.
June was declared as Philippine Environment Month by then President Corazon C. Aquino by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 in 1998. It aims to raise environmental consciousness among Filipinos. Likewise, June 05 is the observance of World Environment Day.
