ICCpic1Volunteers from various sectors joined the observance of the 34th International Clean-up (ICC) in Northern Samar.

iccpic2Government and non-government organizations, the academe, local government units, and environmentalists gathered to clean-up the coasts, beaches, and waterways in Catarman, Northern Samar in support to the goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering the coastlines.

With this year’s theme, “Battle for Litter-free Seas”, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Northern Samar enjoined the communities and the different sectors to continue rallying together towards eliminating ocean trash.

“With this activity, we hope that communities shall take sustainable activities towards keeping the ocean and waterways  clean through a change in people’s behavior that causes pollution”, Ms. Josefina Montañez, Chief of the Management Services Division of PENRO Northern Samar said. “May this event lead and inspire more actions in support of litter-free seas”, she adds.

The regional office and other DENR field offices also spearheaded clean-up activities in their areas of jurisdiction pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 470 which declares the third Saturday of September of each year as the ICC Day in observance of the Global Coastal Clean-up celebrations.
