DENR Region VIII holds its 2nd Regional Management Conference (RMC) to discuss updates and present accomplishments of the regional office, PENROs, CENROs, EMB, and MGB from January-June 2022.
In his message during the conference, Regional Executive Director Arturo Fadriquela reiterated the importance of maintaining good rapport and collaboration with the local government units and other sectors. He also reminded the key officials of DENR VIII to contribute to economic development by spending government funds wisely. Likewise, he underscored the necessity of institutionalizing mitigation measures in the region to reduce the impacts of disasters.
DENR VIII employees stricken by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 receive their financial aid from the Office of the President. A total of 164 beneficiaries whose houses were totally damaged received P100,000.00 and 594 beneficiaries with partially damaged houses received P30,000.00.
Ms. Thelma C. Calibo, Engineering Aide, is one of the DENR employees who expressed gratitude for the Typhoon Yolanda financial aid. “Finally, I have in my hands this longed-for financial aid. I will use this money to pay for my loans during the reconstruction of our house that was totally damaged by Yolanda,” she said.
On March 21, 2022, Acting Secretary Jim O. Sampulna handed over the check amounting to P34.2 million to former DENR VIII Regional Executive Director Tirso P. Parian, Jr. and Finance Division Chief and EVDENREU President Sonia Mejido for DENR VIII employees affected by Typhoon Yolanda.
Acting Secretary Sampulna lauded the tireless efforts of DENR field officials in securing the financial help. He said, the check speaks of DENR’s valued commitment to push tirelessly for the welfare and benefits of its hardworking workforce however long and challenging the waiting has been.
DENR VIII Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Arturo N. Salazar led the distribution of the financial aid to Typhoon Yolanda-stricken DENR employees. Those who are no longer working at the DENR also received the financial aid, including those deceased, through their family.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Region 8 kicked-off the month-long celebration with a Zumba Wellness Exercise which was participated by men and women personnel. The activity was followed with the distribution of tote bags and arrozcaldo to all employees in the regional office.
Other activities lined up in observance of the celebration are as follows: wearing of purple colored T-shirt every Tuesday for the whole month of March, bloodletting, haircut, manicure and pedicure, among others.
National Women’s month is celebrated every year and is spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) in recognition of the women’s role and contribution in nation building and as agents of national development.
The multi-year theme “We Make Change Work for Women” now focuses on the sub-theme for this year, “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran”. It aims to highlight the advancement of the actions for all women ensuring its progress towards women empowerment and gender equality and other national issues such as climate crisis and COVID-19.
DENR’s QMS Internal Quality Audit Team conducts on-site audit and assessment of the processes implemented by the DENR Regional Office VIII and its field offices. This is to ensure that the DENR VIII is delivering its ENR programs and services according to the quality standards set by ISO 9001:2015.
Before the internal audit and assessment, officials and process owners of DENR VIII met with the QMS Internal Quality Audit Team from the Central Office headed by the Department’s Deputy Quality Management Representative Assistant Secretary for Finance, Information Systems and Mining Concerns Nonita S. Caguioa to further discuss the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
ASec Caguioa underscored that ISO 9001:2015 will direct the Department in consistently providing services that meet the needs of the DENR stakeholders. She added that the officials and employees of DENR should work together and strive to fill in the gaps to conform to the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
DENR Region VIII’s Quality Management Representative Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Arturo N. Salazar said that the region’s QMS Core Team has been working closely with the process owners to ensure that the quality management system is implemented in the regional office and all its PENROs and CENROs.
Put to heart the mission of the Department in involving the citizenry in protecting, conserving, and managing the environment and our natural resources.' This is the challenge posed by Secretary Roy A. Cimatu to the men and women of DENR VIII during his recent visit to Eastern Visayas.
“We have made headways in the implementation of our priority programs like that of the Boracay and Manila Bay Rehabilitation which have been replicated in different regions. The key to that has always been our aggressive collaboration with other sectors and stakeholders, both in the public and private. We have to sustain this momentum, ” Secretary Cimatu tells DENR VIII employees.
Secretary Cimatu, together with Assistant Secretary for Field Operations-Visayas Arleigh Adorable and his entourage visited the DENR Regional Office VIII, PENRO Leyte, and CENRO Ormoc.
