Simultaneous River Clean-up in Celebration of Earth Month 2019

            In compliance to memorandum dated April 8, 2019 received by this office on April 15, 2019 and in celebration of Earth Month this April 2019 and Earth Day on April 22 per Presidential Proclamation No. 553 Series of 1990 issued by President Corazon C. Aquino, this office joins in the simultaneous river clean up on April 24, 2019 at a Class C River, Caibiran River located at Brgy. Victory, Caibiran, Biliran which started at 7 o'clock in the morning.

       The river clean up activity were coordinated to both BLGU Victory and LGU Caibiran. The collection and segregation of garbage from the river was spearheaded by the PENR Officer with PENRO Biliran personnel. The activity was participated by a total of 55 personnel of PENRO Biliran, BLGU Victory and LGU Caibiran. There were a total of 25 sacks garbage collected of which 5 were biodegradables while 20 were non-biodegradables.

River Clean-up Acivity at Brgy. Calumpang, Naval, Biliran

              On February 27, 2019, PENRO- Penro Biliran conducted a River Clean-up activity at Brgy. Calumpang, Naval, Biliran. The identified area for clean-up is Cabobot Creek which is a tributary as Anas Watershed going to Caray- Caray River.

              The activity started at 7:00 a.m. which was participated by PENRO Biliran personnel as well as the Barangay Officials represented by Barangay Kagawad Nestor Alandra and from LGU-Naval Mr. Raul C. Villordon.

PENRO Biliran During Arbor Day Celebration in Caibiran, Biliran

           On January 14, 2019, the Municipality of Caibiran, Biliran through the effort of their Mayor Uldarico Maderazo celebrated their first ever Arbor Day. PENR Officer Engr. Elias Aya-ay, Jr was invited to grace the occasion to give highlight on what is arbor day celebration but because of some unavoidable circumstances, SVEMS/Chief, CDS Forester Ma. Cristina A. Santos was there to represent him. She emphasized in her message that the first arbor day celebration occurred on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska City, USA.  Likewise, arbor day celebration is a holiday that celebrates nature.  Observance of Arbor day celebration is by virtue of Republic Act No. 10176, known as the Arbor Day Act of 2012.  The said celebration had a program then followed by tree planting from different stakeholders coming from the different Barangays of Caibiran, and Schools to the selected four sites for the said activities.

Tacloban City communities join this year’s #InternationalCoastalCleanUp activities. DENR Region 8, together with other government agencies and private institutions joined hands in cleaning up the coastal areas and waterways within the city.

DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu recently visited the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Samar in Catbalogan City. During his interface with DENR employees in Samar province, Secretary Cimatu laid his plans to help reduce poverty. Among these are increasing livelihood opportunities through the Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP), reinventing mining to ensure that the country’s mineral resources will benefit the people without compromising the environment, and promoting cacao commodity to augment the livelihood of NGP PO beneficiaries in Samar.
