The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in region 8 supported the recently conducted 2nd Regional Climate Change Conference spearheaded by PH Haiyan Advocacy Cooperative in cooperation with the Climate Change Commission.

The event aimed at raising the awareness of the youth and urging them to become more actively involved in efforts to address the causes and impacts of climate change was attended by around eight hundred fifty (850) students from across Eastern Visayas.

They were presented with current government efforts on climate change mitigation and adaptation. For its part, the DENR, represented by Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Arturo N. Salazar presented the Updates on Government Policy on Climate Change, highlighting the important role played by the youth in environmental protection. In his presentation, he stressed that the youth, as stewards of the earth, are capable of presenting ideas and actions to issues that affect the environment.

Taking the experiences and lessons learned from Super Typhoon Yolanda, this year’s climate change conference was anchored on the theme “Building the Resilience of Coastal Communities and Ecosystems to Climate Change”. ###
