The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in region 8 supports sectors addressing issues on climate change and promoting environmental protection.

Recently it took part in Fashion Revolution Philippines’ “Eco-sustainable Edition of Eastern Visayas’ Project Runway 2017: Our Fabulous Vengeance”, an event which showcased the importance of minimizing waste, and water and air pollution generated from the fashion industry.projectrunway2

According to Fashion Revolution Eastern Visayas League, they intend to unite people and organizations towards radically changing the way clothes are sourced, produced, and consumed.

To show support for the movement’s vision of a fashion industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure, the DENR co-sponsored the event. The office also displayed campaign materials on environmental protection during the event which ran from November 24-25, 2017 at Robinson’s Place Tacloban. The office highlighted the different environmental events in November including Environmental Awareness Month, Clean Air Month, and Climate Change Consciousness Week. Other activities which promote the event’s cause include video presentations, fashion show and exhibit.

The DENR appreciates every effort done by groups and individuals for our environment. It enjoins every citizen to contribute to government’s efforts on environmental protection even in their own little way.

Tacloban City communities join this year’s #InternationalCoastalCleanUp activities. DENR Region 8, together with other government agencies and private institutions joined hands in cleaning up the coastal areas and waterways within the city.

DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu recently visited the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Samar in Catbalogan City. During his interface with DENR employees in Samar province, Secretary Cimatu laid his plans to help reduce poverty. Among these are increasing livelihood opportunities through the Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP), reinventing mining to ensure that the country’s mineral resources will benefit the people without compromising the environment, and promoting cacao commodity to augment the livelihood of NGP PO beneficiaries in Samar.
