The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 8 joins the nation in celebrating November as National Environmental Awareness Month, Clean Air Month, as well as the National Climate Change Consciousness Week on November 19-25.

To mark these significant environmental events, DENR 8’s Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in cooperation with the Regional Ecology Center Eastern Visayas conducted a Regional Environmental Summit for around two hundred (200) participants from the different local government units in Region 8, partner industries, and DENR 8 field offices.envisummit1

Discussions on Solid Waste Management, Air Quality Management, and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation and an exhibit featuring solid waste management highlighted the two-day activity held on November 15-16, 2017 at Palo Municipal Hall, Palo, Leyte.

According to EMB 8, the event was held to enhance public knowledge and consciousness on environmental protection and its impact on people’s health and the environment, establish collaboration and linkage among stakeholders, tackle solid waste management concerns of the local government units and solicit commitment to comply with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act or the RA 9003, and capacitate the participants with knowledge on solid waste management and climate change.

DENR 8 Regional Director Arleigh Adorable is optimistic that the environmental summit will enhance environmental awareness among stakeholders and will become an avenue for sharing of strategies that will ensure a safe and sound environment for the future generations.

Emphasizing on the event’s theme, “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo ang Kalikasan”, EMB Regional Director Letecia Maceda stressed on the importance of working together and sharing little ways to protect the environment and minimize the ill-effects of climate change. ###
